Team Bimota Alstare rider Ayrton Badovini finished runner-up in the EVO class of both World Superbike Championship races at a scorchingly hot Misano today. He also ended 12^th overall in the first race and 11^th overall in the second.

His team mate, Christian Iddon, started both races from the seventh row of the grid, but rode strongly in race one to finish 17^th overall and 5^th in the EVO class. He was on course for a better result in race 2, but highsided on lap 3 and was unable to continue.

“In the first race, I had a little clutch problem and my start was a normal one, rather than a great one. In race two, I made a good start, but I touched a couple of other riders and that upset my rhythm for a lap or two. I then settled down to a good race pace and was able to have a good fight with a group of riders – and it felt good that I could compete with them.

I am happy with my two runner-up spots in the EVO class today. The temperatures were very high and that could’ve caused some problems, but my bike worked well and my condition was good at the end. Our bike continues to improve and the good thing is that we know which areas we need to work on, so I am sure that our future will be good. The gap between our bike and the competition is not big and I think we will become more and more competitive. I would like to dedicate my results today to Francis Batta.”

Christian Iddon – Race 1: 17^th overall, 5^th EVO class

“I feel quite positive about today, even though I only completed a couple of laps in race 2. Starting from so far down the grid is always a struggle, especially as the level of the competition is so high. It was difficult to get into a good rhythm at the start of the first race, but after about four laps, I managed to settle down to a good pace. I had a little bit of a chatter in the last corner, but apart from that the bike worked pretty well.

Race 2 started well and I had a better feeling about the bike because we fixed the chatter problem. There was a definite improvement and I was really looking forward to the race. Somebody began to hold me up and I got a bit too eager to get past and highsided.  It was a slow speed highside and I got banged about a bit, but that was all. It was a shame because I’m sure I could’ve improved on my race one result.”

Ayrton Badovini, pilota del Team Bimota Alstare, ha chiuso in seconda posizione della categoria EVO, in entrambe le manche di questo settimo round del campionato Mondiale Superbike oggi sul tracciato caldo di Misano. La prima manche conclusa in dodicesima posizione assoluta fra le Superbike e la seconda undicesimo.

Il suo compagno di squadra Christian Iddon, che ha cominciato le gare di oggi dalla settima fila della griglia, ha fatto una buona prima manche, chiudendo quinto nella categoria EVO (17esimo assoluto). Avrebbe potuto fare meglio nella seconda, ma la sua gara si è purtroppo chiusa in anticipo quando è stato vittima di un highside al terzo giro.

“Nella prima manche ho avuto un piccolo problema con la frizione e la mia partenza era quindi solo normale, piuttosto che molto veloce. In gara 2 sono invece partito forte, ma ho avuto un contatto con un paio di concorrenti e quello ha disturbato il mio ritmo per un paio di giri. Ho poi trovato un buon passo e ho potuto battagliare con un gruppo di piloti – era bello poter lottare con loro.

Sono contento del fatto che ho fatto due volte secondo nella categoria EVO oggi. Le temperature erano molto alte e sarebbe potuto essere un problema ma la moto si è comportata bene e la mia condizione era buona alla fine. La moto continua a migliorare e la cosa buona è che sappiamo dove dobbiamo lavorare, quindi credo che la nostra futuro sarà positivo. Il distacco fra la nostra moto e i concorrenti non è così grande e penso che diventeremo sempre più competitivi. Vorrei dedicare i miei risultati oggi a Francis Batta.”

Christian Iddon – Gara 1 – 17°, 5° nella categoria EVO

“Anche se ho potuto completare solo un paio di giri in gara 2 sono abbastanza contento. Partendo così dietro in griglia è sempre difficile, soprattutto perché il livello della concorrenza è alto. È stato difficile trovare il ritmo all’inizio della prima manche, ma dopo circa quattro giri, sono riuscito a girare con un buon passo. Ho sofferto un po’ di chattering nell’ultima curva ma a parte questo la moto si è comportata bene. 

Gara 2 è cominciata meglio e avevo un miglior feeling con la moto perché avevamo risolto il chattering. La situazione era sicuramente migliorata e non vedevo l’ora di partire. Qualcuno ha cominciato a rallentarmi nei primi giri ed ero ansioso di passarlo, purtroppo ho aperto il gas troppo violentemente e ho fatto un highside. E’ successo a bassa velocità e ho preso qualche colpo, ma niente di più. Un peccato perché sono sicuro che avrei potuto migliorare il risultato di gara 1.”
