Istanbul (Turkey), Friday 13 September 2013: luck was unfortunately not with Team SBK Ducati Alstare today at the Intercity Istanbul Park circuit in Turkey. While taking part in the first practice session of this twelfth round of the World Superbike Championship, both Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini crashed, injuring themselves in the process.

This morning's first practice session took place in very warm conditions (30˚C air temperature, 44˚C track). The session was longer than usual, 90 minutes in length, in order to give the riders time to familiarize themselves with this new track. Carlos, after suffering a few problems early on in the session, was making solid improvement during the second half of the session, recording times that brought him close to the leading group but unfortunately, right after having registered his fastest lap of the session (59.2), the Spaniard was the victim of a nasty highside at Turn 2. He was taken to the Clinica Mobile as a result, where doctors diagnosed a contusion to the upper thorax as well as a possible fracture of the left scaphoid. Unfortunately Carlos will be unable to continue this weekend; further medical tests are required in order to establish when he will be able to return to the track.

Badovini made a good start to the session, immediately finding his rhythm on this new track. He remained in the top positions for the best part of the extended session but unfortunately, just ten minutes from the end and while in the process of making a very fast lap, he too crashed, losing the front at Turn 12. Having stretched the ligaments in his left ankle as well as suffering severe swelling due to a hematoma in the same ankle, it was decided that he would not participate in this afternoon’s qualifying to give the swelling chance to reduce. Doctors are however confident that Ayrton will be able to ride tomorrow.

The two riders finished this first session in tenth (Checa) and eleventh (Badovini) position.

Carlos Checa: “I have a lot of pain in the chest area on both the right and left side. I’ve also hurt my wrist but as there is already a screw there, resulting from an injury that dates back to 1996, it’s not yet clear whether I’ve now fractured it again or not. I obviously cannot ride in this condition; the doctors have advised me to rest up.”

Ayrton Badovini: "We had made quite a good start. There are a few things we still need to sort out but the session had been going fairly well until the crash, also considering that we were using a harder tyre solution that I normally have more difficulty with. We didn't need the crash of course, my foot was trapped between the track and bike but fortunately, thanks to my boot, the damage was limited. I have however stretched all the ligaments in my left ankle and broken a vein, which is the reason for the swelling. The doctors tell me that, as long as I rest up today and keep my ankle iced, then I should be a in a position to ride tomorrow - I won't be in great shape of course but I'll do my best."

Un'inizio di weekend molto sfortunato per il Team SBK Ducati Alstare

Istanbul (Turchia), venerdi' 13 settembre 2013:  la fortuna non e' stata dalla parte del team SBK Ducati Alstare oggi al circuito Intercity Istanbul Park in Turchia. Partecipando alle prime prove di questo dodicesimo round del Mondiale Superbike, sia Carlos Checa che Ayrton Badovini sono stati vittime di cadute e sfortunatamente entrambi si sono fatti male.

Le prime prove della mattinata si sono svolte con temperature calde (aria 30˚C, asfalto 44˚C). E' stata una sessione di 90 minuti, piu' lunga del solito, per dare ai piloti la possibilita' di imparare bene questo nuovo tracciato. Carlos, dopo qualche problema nella prima fase, ha migliorato molto i suoi tempi nella seconda parte del turno per avvicinarsi ai leader. Subito dopo aver fatto segnare il suo giro piu' veloce della sessione (59.2), lo spagnolo e' stato vittima di un brutto highside alla seconda curva. E’  stato portato in Clinica Mobile dove i medici hanno rilevato una contusione al torace, ed una possibile frattura dello scafoide del polso sinistro. Purtroppo per il pilota spagnolo non sara’ possibile continuare il weekend e si dovra’ valutare dopo ulteriori esami quando potra’ tornare in pista.

Badovini ha cominciato molto bene la sessione. Trovandosi a suo agio fin dall'inizio del turno, Ayrton e' rimasto sempre nelle prime posizioni. Si migliorava continuamente ma purtroppo, a dieci minuti dalla fine, proprio durante un giro veloce, è scivolato alla curva 12 perdendo l’anteriore. Oltre ad uno stiramento dei legamenti della caviglia sinistra, il pilota italiano ha accusato anche un ematoma alla stessa caviglia. I medici hanno consigliato di saltare le qualifiche del pomeriggio per dar modo all’edema di riassorbirsi nella notte. Domani salvo complicazioni dovrebbe essere in grado di tornare in pista.

I due piloti hanno chiuso le prove di oggi in decima (Checa) e undicesima (Badovini) posizione.

Carlos Checa: “Ho molto dolore al petto, sia sul lato destro che sul sinistro. Mi sono fatto male anche alla mano, ma visto che c’e’ gia’ una vite li’, a causa di un precedente vecchio incidente accaduto nel 1996, non e’ chiaro se la frattura sia stata causata dalla caduta di oggi. Ovviamente non riesco a guidare in queste condizioni, i medici mi hanno consigliato di riposarmi.”

Ayrton Badovini: "Avevamo cominciato bene. Ci sono ancora alcune piccole cose da sistemare ma la sessione stava andando abbastanza bene, anche considerando che usavamo la soluzione di gomma piu' dura che di solito non funziona molto bene per me. Mi dispiace per la caduta, avevo il piede intrappolato tra l'asfalto e la moto. Fortunatamente, grazie allo stivale, il danno e' stato limitato. Ho comunque stirato i legamenti e si e' rotta anche una vena nella caviglia, e a causa di questo la caviglia è ora molto gonfia. I medici me dicono che, se tengo alzato il piede e se continuo a mettere del ghiaccio sulla caviglia, dovrei essere in grado di guidare domani - ovviamente non sarò in una condizione perfetta ma ci provero' lo stesso."

Inicio de fin de semana muy poco afortunado para el team SBK Ducati Alstare

Estambul (Turquía), viernes 13 de septiembre 2013.  La suerte no ha estado del lado de team SBK Ducati Alstare hoy en el circuito Intercity Istanbul Park in Turquía. Participando en los primeros entrenamientos de esta décimo segunda prueba del Mundial de Superbike, tanto Carlos Checa como Ayrton Badovini han sido víctimas de sendas caídas y desafortunadamente ambos se han hecho daño. 

Los primeros entrenamientos de esta mañana se han desarrollado con una temperatura elevada (30º, asfalto 44º). Ha sido una sesión de 90 minutos, más larga de lo habitual, para dar a los pilotos la posibilidad de conocer el circuito. Carlos, después de algunos problemas en la primera fase, ha mejorado mucho sus tiempos en la segunda parte del turno para acercarse al líder.  Poco después de haber marcado su vuelta rápida (59.2), el piloto español ha sido víctima de un “highside” en la segunda curva. Ha sido trasladado a la Clínica Mobile donde los médicos han revelado un contusión torácica y una posible fractura del escafoides de la mano izquierda. Desgraciadamente para el piloto español no le será posible continuar pilotando durante el fin de semana y se evaluará después de ser examinado, cuando podrá volver a la pista. 

Badovini ha comenzado muy bien la sesión, encontrándose cómodo desde su inicio. Ayrton ha estado siempre en las primeras posiciones, mejorando continuamente sus cronos. Pero desgraciadamente a diez minutos del final en la que era su vuelta rápida, se ha caído al perder el tren delantero. Sufre una distensión de ligamento en el tobillo izquierdo y también se le aprecia un fuerte hematoma en el mismo.  Los médicos le han aconsejado no salir en la sesión cronometrada para darle tiempo al edema a reducirse durante la noche. Mañana, salvo complicaciones, deberá estar en condiciones de salir a la pista. 

Los dos pilotos han acabado las pruebas de hoy en la décima (Checa) y décimo primera posición (Badovini). 

Carlos Checa: “Tengo mucho dolor en el pecho, tanto en el lado derecho como en el izquierdo.  También me he hecho daño en la mano pero debido a que ya tenía una marca en el mismo sitio a causa de una caída de 1996, no está claro que la fractura haya sido causada por la caída de hoy. Obviamente no puedo pilotar en estas condiciones, los médicos me han aconsejado reposo”.  

Ayrton Badovini: "Habíamos comenzado bien. Teníamos que hacer unos pequeños ajustes pero la sesión estaba yendo realmente bien considerando que usábamos la solución de la goma más dura que normalmente no me funciona muy bien. Me sabe mal por la caída. Me ha quedado el pie entre el asfalto y la moto. Afortunadamente gracias a las botas, los daños han sido limitados.  También tengo una distensión de ligamento y se me ha roto una vena del tobillo y por ello está muy inflamado. Los médicos me han dicho que si tengo el pié en alto y continuo poniéndome hielo en el tobillo, debería de estar en condiciones de pilotar mañana. Obviamente no estaré en perfectas condiciones, pero en cualquier caso quiero probarlo”.
